Makati’s Little Secret: Prime 101

If I were to be asked who I think is the strongest person in this world, I would not even think twice and say ‘my mother’. Strength is not just measured in terms of physical ability, but also in every other aspect of a person. Mothers, in my eyes, are the strongest people in this world (in parallel with fathers of course :D).

To start with, the pains of going into labor are no joke, they’re much worse than cramps, and that’s saying something. Also, it’s no easy feat to raise a child, cook, work, and do groceries while still managing to look fabulous (how do you do it mom? <3) These are just some of the things that children, including myself, often take for granted. They may be mundane tasks, but they have an extraordinary effect in our lives. Who, aside from our mothers, can do all of these simultaneously and excellently?

My parents are my heroes. My mother is my superwoman. I never got scared of other kids because I knew that I had awesome parents to back me up. My mother always makes sure that I get the most that this world has to offer and she never lets a birthday pass without a birthday cake (“A birthday is not a birthday without a cake“). She’s the foundation of our family, the upholder of tradition, the one who helps me fix things when I mess up, and the one who helps me make lambing to daddy to allow me to go to parties. Aren’t our mothers so amazing? Don’t we all just love them?

That’s why, we decided to celebrate this year’s Mother’s day in a restaurant that has been dubbed as Makati’s hidden gem: Prime 101.

One thing that you should know is that the place is really hidden. THANK YOU GOOGLE MAPS AND WAZE. It’s just in front of Don Bosco Makati pala! It’s in this dimly lit, apartment complex -looking building, but when you enter the place, WOAH. It’s a totally different dimension. It’s like a chic condo unit with many tables and chairs. We asked the reason behind the interior and found out that not only is Prime 101 a restaurant, but also a furniture shop. How convenient is that?

They first served this pumpkin soup in a cute cup, which is absolutely delicious! I devoured it and even took some of my dad’s share (so matakaw talaga no? I love you dad). We had to wait for about 45 minutes for the food though. Perhaps it was because it’s Mother’s Day and the place was full.  The pasta was a bit nakakaumay and a bit bland. It was 80% pasta and 20% seafood, and lacked the oomph I was looking for . My dad and I had the tenderloin steak and it was really good, especially with the truffle sauce. My mom loves absolutely loves seabass, so that’s what she ordered. She was quite excited about the seabass, however when we tasted it, there wasn’t anything particularly thrilling about it. I’d say the same thing about this dish as what I’ve said about the pasta. Lastly, my brother had the lamb since it’s his favorite. I guess the taste was just not for him, although it was flavorful.

As you can see, the dishes are not really cheap so it is evident that Prime 101 is a fine dining restaurant. I’d give 5 Des Points for the place because it is very chic and cozy. If you want a unique and exclusive dining experience, then be sure to try out this place! I suggest going for the steak because that’s their forte. The place is like a restaurant exclusively for club members, so it’s like a secret place to go to when you’re stressed or you want to be away from the busy streets of Manila for a while.  I’d love to come back here to try their other dishes and to just unwind :).
