Revisiting Mamou’s Kitchen

Growing up, my mother would always take us to Mamou because she’s just so fond of their food and their place. I, as her daughter, eventually fell in love with the restaurant as well. This place has been a home of many shared memories and laughter with close friends and family members 🙂  They have one of the best steaks in town, and having been avid fans of steak, Mamou has been a family favorite ever since.

If you’re in Manila, you definitely cannot miss Mamou. It’s a staple, a classic, and is basically everyone’s favorite. If you’ve ever wondered what Malou Flores’s kitchen is like, Mamou will give you a taste of it.

I’ve been asking myself ‘where should I eat?‘ for the past few days, and I must admit, it’s quite difficult to decide since you have to take note of a restaurant’s location, of your craving, etc. However, like ideas, you get these sudden urges and emotions, and ….I kind of felt nostalgic. Next to the nostalgia was the craving for steak. My mind just screamed Mamou then and there. So I went downstairs, found my brother playing video games, and exclaimed SUIT UP BROTHER WE’RE GOING TO MAMOU! (Just kidding, he didn’t actually suit up)

I was so excited to be back at Mamou’s! It’s been ages since I’ve been there! I was even humming all the way inside the car haha!

When we arrived there, the place was full, as usual. Thank God we still got seated! Many people had reservations and it seemed like a date night haha!  People say that I look like I’m fifteen, and we were the only teenagers in the place so they must have been thinking, ‘what is a 15-year old girl doing here?’ lol11653343_10204881125090300_1628994525_n

I felt so happy being back at Mamou Too in Rockwell, and when I held the menu it felt like going back to Mom ordering for us while Dad, ahia and I just agree to whatever she orders while laughing at each other’s stories~

The Menu

The Kurobuta Sinigang is our forever fave, but the waiter informed us that they ran out of the dish just minutes before we were seated!!! WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY *wails continue to echo*

We decided to order the Grilled Salmon Steak instead to try something new. ANOTHER FAVORITE is the Angus Ribeye USDA Prime Grade Steak! Man, this steak is just so good, and the sauce is so oily and full of flavor! We always partner this with the sinigang! However, since they ran out of sinigang, we decided to pair the ribeye steak with the Truffle Pasta! I was seriously craving for anything with truffle for the past few weeks and this was my chance to fulfil that craving!

Do take note that most of Mamou’s dishes have big servings, so one order is good enough for two people to share.

Grilled Salmon Steak with Veggie Rice (P595.00). I’d give this:

The salmon was fresh, but it lacked flavor. The veggie rice was okay. It would have been nice if the salmon was seasoned more.

Lorenzo’s Truffle Cream (P395.00). I’d give this:

TRUFFLE CRAVING SATISFIED! If you look at the pasta, it seems so simple, like there’s no flair in it, but its simplicity is its charm. There’s no need for anything else, the truffle cream does it all. Also, even if the pasta is smothered with cream, it’s not nakakaumay at all! In fact, you’ll want to slurp more of this pasta while you eat it!

Now, I was curious on whether Mamou has managed to maintain the taste of their steak or not…AND THEY DID! It’s charred on the outside, deliciously pink inside, and cooked to medium doneness just the way I like it. The steak rice is a great partner; I like to drizzle sauce on it. I cannot put into words how good this steak is, so I’ll let the photo do the talking.

Oh Mamou, Mamou, Mamou…your food will always have me coming back to your kitchen!~

The food was scrumptious as usual and never disappoints! Their service is laudable; the staff is so friendly and attentive! Years may have gone by, but the taste of Mamou and the memories shared with it have never left.

Malou Flores sure knows how to manage her kitchen!
