Chef Bruce Ricketts’ Mecha Uma is one of the hottest tables in town, and he, together with The Moment Group, are back again with a bold Japanese restaurant concept called OOMA, a play on the Japanese word umai, which means good.
And YES, they take ‘good’ very seriously.
I arrived at OOMA before lunch time so there weren’t many people lining up. I was seated immediately at the bar area, which was awesome! I got to see them making and torching the sushis! ~
And we gonna let it burn, burn, burn~
I knew that I had to order the Hanger steak, but I didn’t know what else to order, so I consulted the help of the (cute) waiter and he recommended the Scallop and Tuna Aburi Maki and the Soft Shell Crab Taco-Maki. I also had the Beef Chahan as a side dish.
Now, I’m not really a sushi enthusiast BUT, I can say with much conviction that OOMA has reinvented the sushi. EYELOVEIT.
They also serve this sauce that you can brush on your maki.
Scallop and Tuna Aburi Maki (P295.00). I’d give this:
It has torched scallops, tuna, cucumber, sesame seeds, nori crumbs, scallion, teriyaki sauce, spicy mayo, and Kimchi aioli. Scallops have always been my favorite, and the ones in this maki were so soft. The tuna is just as soft and it tasted so clean and fresh! The mix of the Teriyaki sauce, spicy mayo and Kimchi aioli is groundbreaking. I didn’t know such a combination could exist. The Nori crumbs added the right amount of crispiness. All of these together is just PHENOMENAL.
Soft-Shell Crab Taco-Maki (P199.00). I’d give this:
YES YES YES YES YES. THIS IS SENSATIONAL. The taco concept is so cute! The temaki wrap is salty; just the way I like it. The Aligue mayo plus the crispy soft shell crab and the tobiko just melts in your mouth. THIS IS ART EVERYONE.
Beef Chahan (For Sharing) (P145.00). I’d give this:
The rice tasted like the usual Japanese fried rice with beef on top.
Hanger Steak (P495.00). I’d give this:
First of all, it’s less than 500 pesos. Second, it has WHITE TRUFFLE OIL. Third, IT HAS CRISPY BABY POTATOES.
IT’S LIKE THIS DISH KNOWS ME SO WELL.
No wonder it’s a favorite!
There’s no reason for me not to love it. None at all. It’s perfect. What’s not to love?
I was quite surprised with the prices of the dishes since they’re cheaper than the usuals! That, and the delicious food cinched it for me! My favorite was definitely the Soft Shell Crab Taco-Maki! If you haven’t tried OOMA yet, then OOMAgosh you should definitely head there. It’s exquisite, one of a kind, and best of all, affordable!
OOMAZING, OOMAIGOODNESS, OOMAAPAW SA SARAP! (okay I’ll stop now)
Yet another masterpiece from Chef Bruce and The Moment Group!
