School has been, as expected, stressful, which is why I was looking forward to Reena’s birthday party on Friday. I was anticipating it so much that I kept asking if it was Friday already.
So when the day came, I CASTED ASIDE ALL MY SCHOOLWORKS and made way for the food and fun to come!
The day before, Tricia and I bought a cake and some balloons to surprise Reena the next day.
Reena and I share the same, not dorm, but pad (charaught), so we’re basically unofficial roomies. She comes by everyday and I cook breakfast or dinner for her with my super adorbs mini rice cooker from Cuisintec
You see, for some reason the clock of the guard in our pad is late. Reena told me she’ll leave at 7:45am for a seminar on the day of her birthday, so that means Tricia and I have to set everything up by 7, BUT THEN visitation hours start at 7 as well. Reena also texted me she’ll come by my room so I can do her eyebrows and I told her to come at a later time. Tricia arrived at the lobby a few minutes before 7, but the guard won’t let her go up because it’s still 6:45 in her clock. Tricia was able to go to my room at around 7:06, WE WERE SIX MINUTES BEHIND SCHEDULE.
AND THE CAKE’S TOP PART KINDA MELTED SO WE WERE TRYING TO FIX IT, but them a series of knocks came and I knew it was REENA, who wasn’t supposed to come to my room yet! She was telling me to open the door and that she heard Tricia’s voice, so I told her “go up! Go up to your room! Stay there!!!” She responded with an “okayyyyy” and went up to her room.
So ok we did the best we could with the cake, we lit the candles, and made our way to her room.
BUT THEN. WHEN WE STEPPED OUTSIDE THE ELEVATOR, SHE WAS OUTSIDE HER ROOM REPLYING TO A TEXT AND WE WERE LIKE, ‘UHM SURPRISE??’
and then her dad called.
She made us wait outside her room.
We ended up observing the ceilings and the surroundings.
Then BAM! she suddenly opened the door and we were startled, but we recovered and sang her a Happy Birthday~ She was delighted, and the cake was so yummy. Do not judge a book by its cover indeed.
Moral Lesson: When you have a friend like Reena, who’s an early riser and goes to plans earlier than scheduled, EXECUTE YOUR SURPRISE HOURS BEFORE SHE WAKES UP, AND NOT IN A DORM/PAD WHERE THERE ARE VISITATION HOURS.
But she told us she was actually surprised, because we were all busy with school, so she didn’t expect us to do this, and we started her day right because the night before she was telling me that she wanted someone to surprise her at her door on her birthday and I was like ‘well ganyan talaga~’, but deep inside I was excited because we were going to do the exact same thing!!
I hope you were happy Reena hahaha! We’ll remember this when we’re older having lunch in bistros and sipping tea (oh wait we actually do this in the present time lol).
We went to mass together and went straight to Greenbelt to dine at People’s Palace.
I love the clean and minimalist interiors of People’s Palace, the touch of glass windows, and there’s also plenty of space to walk on.
(Hello from us lol)
WE WERE VERY HUNGRY. WE ONLY HAD THE CAKE FOR BREAKFAST. Reena told Tricia and I to order anything we want so pinagsamantalahan na namin! I WAS SO READY FOR FOOD TO GO INTO MY SYSTEM.
We were surprised because the dishes were served immediately, as if we were in a fast food, so I was worried that the dishes were cooked haphazardly. BUT NOPE. NOT AT ALL.
We had the Aromatic Chicken Curry (with sweet potato and pineapple relish), Mussels Stir Fry (with red curry, chili, and basil), Stir Fried Chicken and Cashew Nuts (with chili and spring onions), Phad Thai (with prawn, chicken, tofu, and bean sprouts), and Khao Pad (egg fried rice with local scallops, prawn, and chicken).
Aromatic Chicken Curry (P390.00). I’d give this:
Mussels Stir Fry (P460.00). I’d give this:
Stir Fried Chicken and Cashew Nuts (P420.00). I’d give this:

For dessert, we ordered Mango with Sticky rice, as per request of Tricia.
Mango Sticky Rice (P280.00). I’d give this:
In a nutshell, everything was so good and every dish was our favorite! I especially loved the Khao Pad and Mussels Stir Fry!
This is bliss
We’ll be back in People’s Palace soon!!! The best Thai resto in Manila indeed, if not one of the best!
After having a quite filling lunch, we walked around and did some shopping to burn what we ate and make room for our afternoon tea. YAHS.
Writers Bar is one of the best afternoon tea spots in Manila. It offers the Simply Classic Afternoon Tea from 2:30pm-5:30pm, which includes tiny sandwiches, scones, a three tier of French pastries, and choice of tea. It’s good for two people for only Php 1,222.00. You can add Php 1,105.00 to upgrade your tea to a glass of Champagne. Get four bubbly upgrades and receive the entire bottle of Champagne.
Smoked Salmon, Egg, Cucumber, Ham, and Beef Tenderloin and Dijonnaise (fave!), sandwiches
Scones and French pastries! My fave was the Hazelnut Profiterole with Macaron ❤
In fact, this set was more than enough for the three of us that we weren’t able to finish all the pastries and sandwiches! So worth the price! Their tea is so lovely, I had about 5 cups of Sweet Paris tea! And that’s coming from someone who doesn’t drink tea!
I fell in love with the interiors of Writer’s Bar, it’s so cozy and refined. The ambience, the piano, the delicious pastries and sandwiches, and the sweet tea; everything was just perfect.
I’d definitely give Writers Bar:
I had a super grand time! Such excellent choices to spend the day on! And of course, it’s always a splendid time with my besties! ❤
With the birthday girl~
The Tres Marias 😀
Since the parentals were in the city, my Mom told me that she’ll take us bagets (her included) to Bank Bar so we can check it out.
Bank Bar is the hip new bar in the Fort brought to us by none other than the Moment Group who’s behind 8cuts. It’s like a secret bar because you have to go through the stock room of the 7Eleven store in the RCBC Savings Bank Corporate Center to get to the bar. HOW COOL IS THAT?
I wasn’t able to take pictures of the food because the darkness made them look weird. It’s a chill place to hang out and the bathroom is really nice, I got the Mott 32/Great Gatsby vibes from its interiors. The food is great as well! I loved the truffle fries and the chicharon with cheese! They also have cheeseburger sliders from 8cuts!
Afterwards, we went to the Gourmand Market (hindi talaga papaawat), ate some nachos and churros, and bought some spreads~
Celebrating Reena’s fabulous 19th with our trio complete and spending time with my family; what a funtabulous week it was!
